Flashing LEDs might indicate a Smartspot device failure. See below for the symptom, the most common causes and solutions.
Symptoms
LEDs at designated locations as indicated by the arrows in the figure below, flash green and red alternately at startup or after a reboot for a period of at least 15 seconds.
Possible causes and Solutions
Power supply
- Power supply cannot deliver nominal or peek loads required to operate the Smartspot device. As a result the voltage drops and triggers a Smartspot reset as a result of brownout. If the Smartspot fails to startup correctly for a second time, LEDs start flashing green and red.
- Switching the power supply too frequently between on and off state. If the Smartspot fails to startup correctly for a second time, LEDs start flashing green and red.
Solutions:
- In case of switching the power supply too frequently between on and off state, just leave the Smartspot powered on. The Smartspot device should restore itself to a healthy state automatically within 30 seconds.
- Check the power supply.
- AC-DC power adapter:
- Check characteristics and specifications required for Smartspot power consumption profile. Power supply should be sufficient to power the device at nominal rated power consumption and have enough margin to deliver power at peak loads.
- AC-DC power adapter may have failed, switch the power adapter to confirm.
- PoE:
- Investigate cabling. Bad wiring or incorrect cable type or cables that are longer than CAT specification for given speed prescribes may lead to network connectivity issues and high power losses.
- Try to use a different network outlet or power the Smartspot directly from the switch.
- AC-DC power adapter:
Application, Configuration or Network failure
Non recoverable failures or errors that have occurred in the Smartspot firmware, a faulty Smartspot setting configuration or network connectivity issues could result in a reboot. In case a Smartspot fails to startup correctly for a second time, LEDs start flashing green and red alternately.
Solutions:
- Try to leave Smartspot powered as it may restore itself to a healthy state automatically within 30 seconds.
- Investigate network connectivity and services.
- Execute a Hardware factory reset. Do not forget to restore Brain server address in Intellifi Dashboard as this setting will also be lost as a result of the factory reset.
- Contact Intellifi Support and provide details such as the device serial number.
Firmware updater failed
Firmware updating process may have failed or a active firmware update has been interrupted prematurely for example by a reboot due to power cycling. Normally the Smartspot should restore to a healthy state automatically.
Solutions:
- Leave the Smartspot running for a while and do not try to manually reboot or interfere. In case of a firmware failure the Smartspot should restore to the previous version of the firmware automatically within 30 seconds.
- Rarely does the backup firmware also get damaged, but it is possible and might happen for example when the internal storage has been compromised. The Smartspot keeps rebooting continuously while external LEDs (as indicted above) keep flashing green and red alternately. If so please contact Intellifi Support and provide details such as the device serial number.
Smartspot hardware failure or DOA
Faulty hardware could prevent the Smartspot from booting. The Smartspot keeps booting continuously while external LEDs (as indicted above) keep flashing green and red alternately.
Solutions:
- If so please contact Intellifi Support and provide details such as the device serial number.
