PentaBLE Module Release Notes

This article keeps track of the firmware release notes for the PentaBLE module. PentaBLE is the second generation of the Bluetooth Low Energy products for the Smartspot Platform and successor of BLE2Spot module. It has up to five radios which are used to receive and process BLE advertisements, connect up to 8 BLE Micro-Spot Relays or handheld scanners simultaneously and read and configure Smart Items.

Important to know

PentaBLE module is part of the Smart BLE Software Suite which consist of a variety of products who share the same core functionality. Therefore it's possible for the version number to change without any actual changes to this particular device.

What's New

• Added a filter which can be used to reject BLE advertisements with a RSSI below a certain threshold level. At default the threshold is disabled. Users could enable this filter by changing the Smartspot bt_threshold configuration setting.

Bug Fixes

• Addresses a non critical problem which could cause an incorrect response to a enable_leds command while the command was being executed successfully.

Bug Fixes

• Addresses an issue which may cause the module to skip initializing observe advertisement mode if the Smartspot Platform waits too long initiating the module after a reboot. Ultimately this could result in no observed Bluetooth presences by the Smartspot Platform.

• Addresses an issue which caused the module to ignore a specific Bluetooth advertisement packet (ADV SCAN IND).

• The maximum size for barcode data which is received though BLE handheld scanners was not sufficient and could cause a reject due to incomplete data. The maximum size has been raised for support.

Bug Fixes

• An issue in the boot loader could cause a chip to remain active on a secondary and shared communication bus which than could potentially cause a data corruption.

Version 2.0.0 - June 1, 2018

What's New

• Boot loader has been updated to the latest version.
• Added watchdog support for the boot loader which, in exceptional circumstances enable the module to reset a particular chip and regain control.
• The module now supports up to 8 connections with ATS100 handheld readers in BLE mode.
