Location Engine

The Brain contains a Location Engine service to determine the location of each item.

The location engine uses all available sources of information on items to base the decision upon. This information may include:

• presence state 
• proximity level
• antenna reports

In this order, these information sources contain increasing levels of information on the visibility and distance of an item to the Smartspot.

The higher the information level is, the more reliable it can assign the correct location to an item.

Location Engine

In the decision making process of the location engine, the following base rules apply:

• In case an item is present at a location and no longer present at another location the item location will be updated to the location where the item is present.
• In case an item shows present on two locations Brain assigns the location based upon the nearest proximity of both. In case there is no difference in proximity Brain assigns the location based up the latest presence.
• In case antenna reports are available, proximity is no longer of influence. For a particular tag, Brain uses antenna reports from all Smartspots and antennas that receive information from the tag. Based upon the combined signal statistics of these antenna reports, Brain estimated the actual tag location.
