How to access the Item Editor?
- Open the Management Console. The Management Console can be accessed via a web browser. Enter your Brain URL into the search bar and hit enter.
- Login with your credentials. In case your session is still valid, you won't need to Login again and go straight into Device Management.
- In the Menu select Apps, Item Editor.
Item Editor layout
The figure below shows an example of the item editor user interface. The app allows you the access the Items in the system, change properties such as label, settings or group Items in a List Set. The top of the app contains some buttons and fields that allow you to Show item sets, change the sort order, refresh, show current Item Locations, present state and filter on specific Item properties.
Pagination
By default the total Items displayed will be limited to 15. This number can be changed if required. If the total number of Items in your system is more that this limit, the results will be paginated. Changing pages is possible at the bottom or the screen by pressing Next, Previous or selecting a specific page number.
Filters
Type
This filter allows you to filter on Item type and protocol. The table below lists a number of options and their descriptions.

Tag (Bluetooth) | Bluetooth advertising beacon. Cannot be configured via Brain. |
Smarttag (Bluetooth) | Bluetooth advertising Smart beacon that has the option to update settings via Brain and may be equipped with one or multiple senses, such as: battery state, temperature or motion. These senses are also supported by Brain.![]() |
Relay (Bluetooth) | Bluetooth Relay device that can be paired with a Smartspot to relay Bluetooth messages by effectively increasing Smartspot range or to improve Localization in the current covered area. |
Label
This filter allows you to filter on Item label. The label is a field that can be customized by user. The system won't change labels by default. To label an Item click on the pencil button in the Label column. A dialog screen with an input text field will pop-up. Press apply to save any changes.
Code
This filter allows you to filter the results based on code. Item code is represented as a hexadecimal string and can have a different format per type, protocol and technology. The table below shows a number of Item types and their code formats.

Sets
This filter allows you to filter all Item that are part an Item Set. You need to create Item Sets first before this option will be available. To manage end get an overview of all Sets in the system use the button Show Sets located at the top. Also see the section Item Sets for more information and possibilities.

Item sets
Item sets allow you to group Items together. These sets can be used to filter results in Item Editor, Live Presences App and Web API, but it's even possible to synchronize them to Smartspot devices, so that these devices can perform local actions (Smartspot Sense&Control) once one or multiple Items are in range. A few examples of these local actions are:
- Turn a light or indicator on or off,
- open or close doors or tourniquets,
- Enable a siren.

Set management
To create a new Item Set, open the Item set management in the Item Editor by clicking Show sets button at the top of your screen. Set management appears at the left side. Here you can create new sets, change labels and remove sets.
Items in a set
Select a Set to see what items are part of the Set. It's also possible the use the Sets filter in Item Editor.
Add Items to a set
To add an Item to a Set press the Add to button that is located for each Item at the right side of your screen. A list of all Item Sets appears. Select the destination Item Set and the Item will be added to that Set.
