This article will try to help you troubleshoot why the Smartspot does not have any presences on the Brain.
When this article can't help you, please send us an email to support@intellifi.nl and describe your problem. Make sure to mention the Smartspot serial number and the Brain you are using.
Before starting, make sure you have the following items at hand:
- The Smartspot serial number. This can be found at the sticker on the back of the Smartspot, for the image below this would be
1384
. - The Brain address you are using. In the form of
brain.intellifi.nl
- RFID tags and/or Bluetooth tags close to the Smartspot that does not generate presences.
Verify RFID presences via Smartspot status LED
This step only applies to a Smartspot with an RFID module installed. By default, the Smartspot has a default sense&control scheme which will blink the red LED on the back of the Smartspot when RFID tags are read. This gives an indication if RFID tags are read from the Smartspot. When this does not happen, the problem could be related to RFID settings. (SEE LINK)
Verify Smartspot-Brain connectivity
Verify that the Smartspot is connected with the desired Brain by following the steps explained in: "What to do when my Smartspot does not show up in the Brain - Verify Smartspot-Brain connectivity". If the Smartspot is not connected, follow the steps in "What to do when my Smartspot does not show up in the Brain" to solve this issue.
Verify connected antennas
The Smartspot will verify that the connected antennas are within spec. Verify if the connected antennas are detected well by following the next steps:
Verify connected antennas using the Smartspot web interface
- Enable the internal Smartspot web interface as described in the following article: How to enable and use the Smartspot web interface
- Verify the "RFID Antenna Status" list. An example is shown in the image below:
- Verify that the connected antenna's are "Enabled", the Smartspot that was used in the example above only had two antennas connected. An antenna is disabled when it is not properly connected or that there is something wrong with the antenna itself. Contact support@intellifi.nl to get support on this issue.
Verify connected antennas using the Brain
- Go the Brain and login.
ADDRESS
- Go to the following URL
https://<brain-address>.intellifi.nl/api/spots?serial_number=<serial-number>
- Note down the value of the "
max_antenna_swr
" Smartspot configuration object member object (See: Smartspot configuration reference for more information about the Smartspot configuration object) - Verify that the values in the "
rfid_swr
" array are below the value of the "max_antenna_swr
" value. The values in the "rfid_swr
" are sorted per antenna number, so the first value in the array is antenna number one, the second value in the array is antenna number two, etc.. - Antennas with a value in the "
rfid_swr
" bigger than the value "max_antenna_swr
" will be disabled. An antenna is disabled when it is not properly connected or that there is something wrong with the antenna itself. Contact support@intellifi.nl to get support on this issue.
Verify connected antennas using the Dashboard
- Go to the dashboard at dashboard.intellifi.nl and login using the supplied credentials.
- Locate the Smartspot by searching for the Smartspot using the serial number.
- Note down the value of the "Max Antenna Swr" Smartspot setting found in the dropdown menu of Smartspot settings. This is shown in the image below.
- Verify that the values in the "SWR readings" - "Spot information" list are below the value of the "
max_antenna_swr
" value. See the image below for an example. - Antennas with a value in the list bigger than the value "
max_antenna_swr
" will be disabled. An antenna is disabled when it is not properly connected or that there is something wrong with the antenna itself. Contact support@intellifi.nl to get support on this issue.
Verify antenna-location assignment
The antennas of a Smartspot report to a certain location about their presences. When the antenna/Smartspot is not assigned to a location, no presences are reported. Go to the location editor in the Brain and verify that the antennas are assigned correctly. See How to assign Antennas to Locations on how to use this Brain application. The image below gives in indication of how this is shown in the editor:
Verify Smartspot RFID configuration
Verify via the Brain or the Dashboard that the following Smartspot configuration object members are configured correctly (See: Smartspot configuration reference for more information about the Smartspot configuration object):
rfid_enable
; Set totrue
rfid_power_dbm
; Set to the default value for the product (usually27
)
Verify Smartspot RFID reader module temperature
This step only applies to a Smartspot with an RFID module installed.
Verify via the Brain that the reader module temperature is below 60 degrees Celsius. When the temperature of the RFID reader module of a Smartspot goes above 60 degrees Celsius it will disable the RFID reader module which in turn will stop reading RFID tags.
Follow these steps to check the temperature of the RFID reader module on the Brain:
- Go the Brain and login.
ADDRESS
- Go to the following URL
https://<brain-host>.intellifi.nl/api/spots?serial_number=<serial-number>
- Restart the Smartspot, because the Smartspot status object RFID member will only update on bootup of the Smartspot.
- Note down the value of the
"modules.rfid.temperature"
under Smartspot status object member. - Verify that the
temperature
value is smaller than "6000" (this value is degrees in Celsius times 100). - When this value is above "6000" the RFID reader module will be disabled.
- Note that this value might be lower than "6000" because the device has just been restarted. When this value is too close to "6000" there is a very high chance that temperature issues are the cause of the Smartspot not having any presences on the Brain.
Verify Smartspot Bluetooth configuration
Verify via the Brain or the Dashboard that the following Smartspot configuration object members are configured correctly (See: Smartspot configuration reference for more information about the Smartspot configuration object):
bt_beacon_recv
; Set totrue
