Hardware Overview
The image below shows the backside of the i4 Reader with all the available input and outputs (GPIO).
- Antenna ports (ANT1 - ANT4)
Female SMA antenna connectors for UHF RFID. The device will automatically detect connected antennas at startup.
Always power off the device before connecting or disconnecting any antenna(s)! - Status LED
The status LED will blink when there are RFID Tags present. - Powering the device (12V DC/Ethernet)
There are 2 options to power the device: by using Power over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af) or by using the DC port. The DC connector connects to the bundled 12V DC wall adapter, your own 12V power supply or a 12V battery for mobile operation. Power consumption is below 10W, typically around 8W. - Ethernet
IEEE 802.3af compliant Power over Ethernet port. Used for connecting the device to the internet and/or powering the device. See First time setup and how to connect to your i4 Reader for more information. - Pinhole button
The pinhole button can be used in two ways:- Resetting the device to it's factory defaults, this is described in How to Reset the i4 Reader to Factory Defaults
- Enabling the web-interface for the i4 reader, this is described in How to enable and use the i4 Reader web interface
- GPIO port
For applications that require up to two in- and two outputs. All connections are isolated using optocouplers. Click here to download documentation - Bluetooth receiver port (BLE version)
A female SMA antenna connector that is connected internally to a three-channel BLE receiver. You can connect a 2.4 GHz antenna directly to this port, or you can extend it with a 50 Ohm coax cable. - Bluetooth master port (BLE version)
This female SMA antenna connector should be connected to a 2.4 GHz antenna. This antenna port supports the use of BLE relays or microspots to extend the range and to improve location accuracy.
