This article describes how to enable and use the i4 reader web interface.
Why is there a web interface
The web interface is an interface that can be accessed from the browser and makes it possible to change reader specific settings.
Activate the web interface
By default the web interface is turned off for security reasons. When enabled, the web interface stays active for 15 minutes. To connect to the web interface follow the steps below.
- Make sure that:
- The i4 reader is within the same IP sub-network as the device you're working from, see the image below:
- The sub-network that you and the i4 reader are connected to has an active DHCP server.
- You know the i4 reader ID (last 4 digits of the serial-number printed on the device)
- The i4 reader is within the same IP sub-network as the device you're working from, see the image below:
- Power on the i4 reader and make sure that the Ethernet cable is connected
- Connect Ethernet cable.
- Power on the i4 reader. See "powering the device"
- The device will produce a 3-tone beep which indicates the device has booted.
- Enabling the web interface
- After booting, which is indicated by the sound, wait for about 10 seconds so that the device has time to get ready. Then press the pinhole button located below the Power connector for 5 seconds. Push the internal button by putting a paper clip or similar object in the pinhole below the DC connector.
- The device will sound a four-tone beep (low-mid-high) as an indication that the web interface will be started.
- The web interface is ready to be used.
Note: For security reasons, the web interface will be available for ca. 15 minutes after activation. The device will produce another four-tone (high-mid-low) beep to confirm web interface shutdown.
View and modify the settings from your browser
- By default the hostname of your i4 reader starts with "spot" followed by the serial number. For example: spot1234.
- You can access the web server through the following URL using your browser:
http://spot1234/
Note: using the hostname works with Netbios enabled clients including Windows and Mac. Linux based systems do not support this by default.
- The configuration screen enables you to:
- View the current IP-address and other device details.
- Change the device role between HTTP client and TCP server.
- Modify IP related settings including DHCP, fixed IP and DNS servers.
- Change the NTP (time synchronization) server.
- This page also shows:
- Presences: The actual number of unique tags detected by the reader.
- RFID Antenna status: Overview of enabled antennas. Note that the i4 reader supports up to 4 connected antennas.
- Click Submit to confirm settings and reboot the device. The web server will be disabled after reboot.
